San Francisco sailing is a must do if you are visiting the bay area! If you are looking for something a little more amazing…something that has that once in a lifetime feeling. Then look into a sunset sailing trip with Adventure Cat Sailing. Sunset on the bay sounds like a beautiful trip to begin with but when you pair it up with sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset you have something that is magical.

ADVENTURE CAT SAILING

Adventure Cat Sailing offers multiple sailing trips on any given day.  The catamaran goes out of the marina right next to the Pier 39 shopping area and the infamous sea lions at Gate J.  They are easy to book with their online reservation system: Adventure Cat Sailing Charters and everyone that we interacted with was very nice and accommodating.  When booking the trip we learned that included with our ticket price we would also get light snacks (cheeses, crackers and veggies) and 2 free drinks (various sodas, wines and beers).

OUR SUNSET SAILING WITH ADVENTURE CAT

Once we arrived at the marina, we were greeted and checked in for our sailing.  We were asked to wait a few minutes prior to boarding to allow the crew to finalize getting prepped for the sunset sailing tour. Once we were called, we walked down the ramp to the pier.  We were advised that there were a few sea lions sleeping on some of the other boat slips and to just ignore them.  Once on board the catamaran, we quickly decided that we wanted to be out on the deck.  We didn’t want to miss anything on this trip!  There was also seating available inside that was out of the wind and closer to the snacks and the bar.

Heading out of the marina we sailed right past the noisy sea lions along with the visitors lined up to see them. After leaving the pier we sailed straight out into the bay heading for Alcatraz island.  We passed by the ferry boat that takes the visitors to and from the island.  We sailed around the backside of the island and were able to get a new look at Alcatraz. I have to say that Alcatraz Island is A LOT bigger than it looks from Pier 39.

Sunset was fast approaching so it was time to head toward the Golden Gate Bridge.  Along the way we passed another sailboat that had the same destination in mind.  Crossing under the bridge itself was incredible!  Especially since we were blessed with good weather and no fog, we had full visibility of the redness of the bridge against a bright blue sky.  It was breathtaking!

Heading back to the marina it was much quieter with many people chatting and reflecting on the trip we had just taken.  We took this opportunity to enjoy some of the snacks and beers that were available and watched the last little bit of sunset.  After the sunset sail we started looking for a close option for dinner.  I would recommend checking out Fog Harbor Fish House located right next to the marina where Adventure Cat sails from. Looking for something not at Pier 39 but still close by?  Check out Cioppino’s which is a short walk down the waterfront.
